Valley View Senior Living resident Ms. Phyllis turned 100 on Friday, April 14, 2023.
Team members, fellow residents, family, friends, and more celebrated her birthday on April 14 at our senior assisted living community with cake, punch, and cookies. Local musician Brett Marshall provided the live entertainment.
How many people turn 100 every day?
In the United States, the number of centenarians, or individuals who are 100 years old or more, is increasing. It’s estimated that in the 1990s, only about 15 out of every 100,000 Americans had reached this impressive milestone. However, there are now over 92,000 centenarians in the US.
It’s fascinating to note that people are now living longer, and reaching this age has become more common. The centenarian population is booming globally. By the year 2050, experts predict there will be over 386,000 centenarians in the US. So, we can expect to see even more of our loved ones reaching this impressive milestone in the future.
Want to live to be 100? Experts say living in the Lone Star State helps. Texas is home to the fourth most centenarians in the country. Ms. Phyllis is now part of that impressive statistic.
The Secret to Living to 100
A positive outlook and faith delivered Phyllis to this spectacular milestone.
Phyllis was born on April 14, 1923, in Minnesota. She married her late husband, and they had five children together. Phyllis worked at a medical clinic in Minnesota for 15 years. She traded in the long winters for sunshine and spent most of her life in California. It’s a joy for us that she now calls Valley View Senior Living in Harlingen, Texas home.
Her favorite color is blue, and her favorite snack is vanilla ice cream.
At almost 100 years old, Phyllis says to “keep your mind straight and pray during good and hard times. Always keep a cheerful attitude and always look on the bright side of life.”
It is truly an honor to serve Phyllis and the other residents who live with passion here at Valley View.
