Vanice, an assisted living resident at The Grandview of Chisholm Trail, is not your average retiree.
She spent 36 years in education, working her way up to the position of Chief Financial Officer for the Lewisville Independent School District. Vanice started her career in education as an elementary school teacher and was even honored with an award for her outstanding service to the education community, as shown in her interview with Hoopla Magazine.
But that’s not all there is to Vanice’s story. She has accomplished so much in her life and continues to make an impact at her new community for senior living in Fort Worth, Texas.
After her husband passed away from cancer, Vanice felt overwhelmed living in a large house alone. She eventually moved to assisted living at The Grandview of Chisholm Trail, where she now lives in a luxurious apartment. Despite struggling with the initial transition, Vanice quickly found ways to stay busy and contribute to her community.
Vanice says she loves the team members and fellow residents more than the apartment and resort-style amenities.
“I like the people. The nurses’ aides are very kind. They would do anything for me. I love them very much,” she says. “I don’t have any enemies here. They’re all friends.”
“They’re all friends.”
Vanice is a prominent member of the Resident Ambassador Club, where she helps residents feel welcome and connected to the community. She also assists with various activities and outings, including bingo nights in The Cottage for residents with Alzheimer’s and dementia.
In fact, Vanice takes bingo very seriously. She often says, “If I can’t call bingo, then there is no bingo.” Her calling style and encouragement are unmatched.
The star resident is very compassionate with memory care residents. She has witnessed the power of bingo firsthand, noticing improvements in people’s cognitive abilities.
And she is not wrong. Bingo is a cliche when most people think about senior living. However, the game is an excellent alternative to pharmaceutical cognitive enhancement.
Vanice’s passion for education has not waned in her retirement. She continues to share her knowledge and experience with others. Her fellow residents learn from her experiences and her willingness to share kindness.
Vanice’s accomplishments are numerous, but they all stem from her love of education and desire to make a difference in the world. She inspires many and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
At The Grandview of Chisholm Trail, we think Vanice is a remarkable woman with a heart for education, community, and calling bingo. She has accomplished so much in her life and continues to make a difference in her new home in Fort Worth. Her story is a testament to the resilience and strength of the human spirit, and her passion for life and learning inspires us all.
