What is Independent Living?

Where is the best place for you to live during your retirement years? Maybe your instinct is to stay in the home where you raised your kids and made countless memories. After all, you’ve put a lot of work into that house and are accustomed to the conveniences of home.

However, staying at home after retirement comes with its inconveniences. Household chores like laundry and landscaping can eat into your free time, and driving to the doctor or the supermarket can take an entire afternoon. These are your golden years — you want to spend them thriving, not checking items off a to-do list.

A senior living retirement community represents the ultimate solution for reducing stress and eliminating clutter while remaining independent and in control for many seniors. Becoming a vital part of a vibrant retirement community entails a cheerful home and rich social connections. You can maximize the joy in your life and spend more time with friends and family you cherish.

What is Independent Living?

Independent senior living communities are becoming a popular option for seniors looking to retire in a community environment. When you choose Independent Living, you can expect a tight-knit campus full of amenities, activities, and enthusiastic residents looking to forge connections and make the most of each day.

At its core, Independent Living delivers the feel of a private residence without the hassle of chores, yard work, and other maintenance that comes with a home. Independent Living empowers each resident to find the most fulfilling way to spend their days by offering many activities, services, and amenities in a walkable living environment.

Many types of living spaces and levels of care exist in our communities. Relocate into a fully-loaded apartment and “age in place” to receive personalized care in a single location. Independent Living is an ideal entry point into the passionate care we offer at Civitas Senior Living.

At an Independent Living community, you can take advantage of rotating activities, events, classes, and clubs. Maybe you’ll become invested in personal fitness and take a dip in the pool every day, or perhaps you’ll start hosting international movie nights in your community and bond over your favorite French films with other residents.

Difference Between Assisted Living and Independent Living

When you decide to take the next step, you aren’t limited to Independent Living. While searching for the right fit for you, you will also see Assisted Living and Memory Care as viable options.

  • Assisted Living – Assisted Living is an ideal fit for seniors who can benefit from extra help with bathing, dressing, mobility, and medication management. Residents in Assisted Living enjoy a sense of independence and are helped by staff as needed. Both Independent Living and Assisted Living are usually available at the same campus for convenience and flexibility.

  • Memory Care – At Civitas Senior Living, we offer a comprehensive, evidence-based approach to Memory Care for residents in need of full-time dementia care or Alzheimer’s care. We train our staff on every stage of dementia and Alzheimer’s for personalized support. Staff is on hand 24/7 to provide assistance and create moments of joy.

Ultimately, the difference between Independent Living and other living options is the level of assistance the residents need to perform daily activities.
