A Positive Approach™ to Memory Care

Our memory care residents deserve the best in comprehensive, evidence-based care that focuses on the individual, facilitates a positive atmosphere, and boosts their quality of life. That’s why Civitas Senior Living incorporates Teepa Snow’s Positive Approach™ to Care (PAC) into our memory care program.

Teepa Snow is an occupational therapist with over 40 years of clinical experience and a passionate advocate for those living with dementia. She founded PAC out of a personal mission to help families and professionals better understand how it feels to be living with such challenges and change. Teepa’s teaching style integrates facts about the brain and what happens to someone when doing, thinking, reasoning, or processing becomes difficult.

Select members of the Civitas Wellness Team are PAC Certified Independent Trainers. This certification requires six hours of online training, eight hours of classroom training, and post-training follow-up. It allows them to instruct others — including our community managers and care staff — in the awareness, knowledge, and skill development of the PAC philosophy in a classroom, community, or support group setting. Participants enjoy an in-depth look into dementia-related knowledge and various learning styles and gain hands-on experience with PAC facilitation techniques.

Through the use of PAC training in our communities, we are able to better enhance the lives and relationships of memory care residents.
