“I wonder where my paintings are now?” Hugh G. often says. “Packed away or proudly displayed?”
The resident, who lives at Legacy Oaks of Midlothian, is known for his beautiful paintings. One of his most striking works is a portrait of his late wife Margaret, who passed away in 2020.
Step into his apartment, and among the standard comforts of home, is also a fully functional art studio. Numerous pieces hang on his wall, and an easel holds his current creation. His primary subjects are people or ornate landscapes of the Wild Wild West.
Hugh, who’s humble for the talent he harbors, was thrust into the forefront when Legacy Oaks of Midlothian celebrated his work with an art show in the community. In front of a packed house, Hugh was able to share what inspires his work, as well as the stories behind each piece.
With delicious hors d’oeuvres and art all around, it was a truly special moment for Hugh, who is as creative as ever.
“Our community is full of stories, and Hugh’s paintings tell his in a way words can’t,” said Jeff Treml, Executive Director. “We were thrilled to see his pieces on display and hear about the inspiration behind them.”
