HOW DO I AFFORD ALL THIS?

Dripping Springs Seniors Form ‘Big Hearts Club’ to Spread Goodwill and Bring Everyone Together

Things got extra sweet at Ledgestone Senior Living in Dripping Springs during their Market Day celebration in September 2024. Residents of the independent living side of the community indulged in the perfect treat—banana splits—while enjoying a lively marketplace filled with homemade goodies and handmade crafts.

Ledgestone Senior Living’s Big Hearts Club is run by the residents of the community. They give back, unite others, and spread cheer everywhere they go.

But the real stars of the day were the members of the resident-made Big Hearts Club, a group that’s bringing more smiles and love to Ledgestone than ever before.

What is the Big Hearts Club?

The Big Hearts Club, founded by independent living resident Gerry N., has become a heartwarming symbol of connection at Ledgestone.

After her husband transitioned to assisted living three months ago, Gerry was inspired to create something special to unite residents from both sides of the community. What started as a small group of five has grown to around 15 Big Hearts members who volunteer their time every other Thursday at the assisted living building.

They teach arts and crafts, bake up delicious treats to fund their efforts, and, most importantly—spread joy wherever they go!

Let’s Bring Everyone Together

Ledgestone’s Market Day gave the Big Hearts Club a chance to showcase their talents, selling freshly baked goodies while others proudly displayed their handmade projects. There was no shortage of community spirit, as health care and wellness providers joined in for Q&A sessions, and the day wrapped up with everyone enjoying banana splits in the sunshine.

“Gerry’s idea of bringing our two buildings closer together has blossomed into something beautiful,” said Ledgestone’s Executive Director, Casey Brill. “The Big Hearts Club has shown us that community and kindness have no limits. It’s a reminder that there’s nothing better than bringing people together with purpose and joy.”

Hearts on Wheels

And if that wasn’t enough, the Big Hearts Club also runs the “Big Hearts on Wheels” program, where volunteers, led by Rebecca Rasmussen, Ledgestone’s Independent Living Manager, visit patients in hospices, hospitals, and rehabilitation centers.

Dressed in their Big Hearts shirts, they deliver a little extra cheer to those who need it most—and trust us, it’s a hit every time!

With Market Day a huge success and The Big Hearts Club continuing to grow, the Ledgestone community is stronger than ever, reminding us all that a little compassion goes a long way.
