Willa W., The Hamptons of Tyler’s “Cajun Queen,” celebrated a century of life in the only way she cared to: with a Mardi Gras-themed party! The centenarian was the first-born of eleven kids. Many of her siblings traveled from The Bayou State to join her birthday bash in East Texas.
At 100 years old, Willa can still cut a rug and was among the many people at her celebration, energetically dancing to music. Purple and green decor filled the room, and the birthday dessert of choice was none other than King Cake!
“When she was little, she played basketball at school, and she loved horses. She was very active,” one of Willa’s sisters told CBS19 news. “And she still is today!”
Willa also loved playing golf, dancing, listening to music and was described by friends and family as being gifted in art.
“What’s most important to you in life? Family?” an attendee asked her. “Just fun!” Willa answered.
Willa resides in The Cottage, a specialized community section designed for seniors in need of memory care. She’s also the longest-tenured resident, and she has been calling the community home since 2012!
“We were so privileged to celebrate Willa’s 100th birthday and to share this moment with her family and friends,” said Rob Jones, Executive Director. “Willa’s connection to Louisiana and her presence in our community is important to all of us.”
