HOW DO I AFFORD ALL THIS?

Celebrating Women Veterans in Assisted Living and Memory Care

June 12th is Women’s Veterans Day, a newer commemoration that recognizes and celebrates the brave women who have served in the military.

It is an important day, especially here in Texas, as we honor the women veterans who have contributed so much to our country.

Double Creek is a veteran-friendly Assisted Living and Memory Care community in Round Rock, Texas. We take pride in commemorating this special day and thanking our veterans for their service.

Our gratitude extends to all veterans who have played a vital role in preserving our freedom. Thanks to the brave, Round Rock is also proud to top the charts as one of the best cities in America.

The Significance of Women’s Veterans Day:

Women’s Veterans Day holds historical importance as it was on June 12, 1948, that the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act was signed into law.

This legislation marked a milestone, allowing women to serve as full armed forces members. It is crucial that we celebrate this fact and acknowledge the incredible contributions made by women veterans throughout history.

Honoring Round Rock Women Veterans

At Double Creek, we are privileged to have several women veterans among our community members. Let’s take a moment to recognize and salute their service:

  • Mildred “Rosie” S. – Navy
  • Debbie M. – Army
  • Monette T. – Army
  • Valerie C. – Marines

Their courage, dedication, and sacrifices have paved the way for future generations of women in the armed forces. We appreciate their commitment and are proud to have them in our community.

The Aging Veteran Population

As the years go by, it becomes increasingly important to consider senior living options for our aging veterans. The average age of male veterans is 65, while the average age of women veterans is 51.

This statistic means that many veterans and their spouses will soon need to make decisions regarding their long-term care.

Veterans benefits are one helpful tool to aid in paying for senior care.

VA Benefits for Senior Veterans

In America, there are approximately 18.2 million veterans aged 65 and older.

Veterans and their surviving spouses are entitled to VA benefits to help cover the cost of long-term care.

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) provides a range of benefits, including:

  • Disability compensation
  • Pensions
  • Aid and Attendance Benefit

One valuable VA benefit that can help elderly veterans cover the cost of Assisted Living or Memory Care is the Aid and Attendance Benefit.

This benefit provides additional financial assistance to veterans and surviving spouses who require the aid of another person to perform daily activities such as bathing, dressing, or eating.

By receiving a VA pension and demonstrating the need for assistance with daily activities, elderly veterans can maximize the Aid and Attendance Benefits to help pay for the supportive care they require in an Assisted Living or Memory Care community.

Veterans deserve the necessary support in a comfortable environment rather than relying solely on home care.

Paying for Long-Term Care with VA Benefits

If you or your loved one served in the armed forces, it’s important to understand how to utilize VA benefits for long-term care services.

To qualify for benefits, you need to apply for VA Aid and Attendance Benefits, which take into account factors such as:

  • Daily lifestyle habits
  • Health conditions
  • Doctors notes

Eligible veterans may also qualify for housebound benefits if they have a permanent disability that restricts their ability to leave home.
