How Civitas Senior Living Celebrates Residents Through Connection, Creativity, and Compassion
Every person has a story. In Civitas Senior Living communities, each story deserves to be honored, celebrated, and shared. That’s why we created the Miracle Moments program — a unique way to recognize the lives and legacies of our residents.
Whether it’s a hot air balloon ride, an art show, or a themed birthday party, Miracle Moments are personalized experiences that bring joy to residents and their families.
But these celebrations are more than just events. They represent the deep relationships built within our communities through programs like Resident Ambassadors, the connections formed during daily activities, and the memories made between staff and residents.
Let us show you how your loved one can be part of something meaningful.
Making First Days Feel Like Home
Moving into a senior living community can be a big transition. That’s where our Community Ambassador Program comes in.
Resident Ambassadors are volunteers who welcome new neighbors, invite them to activities, and help them feel part of the community right away. They lead welcome tours, host monthly “Meet and Greet” events, and make weekly check-ins.
The goal is simple: no one should feel alone or left out.
At Ledgestone Senior Living in Austin, TX, resident ambassador Gerry went above and beyond by founding the Big Hearts Club. What started as a friendly group soon became a mission. They baked treats for events, led craft workshops, and visited local hospitals as part of their “Big Hearts on Wheels” program. Their efforts welcomed new residents and spread kindness across the community.
Personal Dreams, Made Real
Once residents feel at home, we turn our attention to celebrating their lives through Miracle Moments. These events are tailored to each person’s interests, passions, and past experiences. They’re planned with support from family members and our Activities Directors and carried out with great care.
Near Fort Worth at Legacy Oaks of Azle, we honored Lena, a lifelong ballet dancer, with a return to the dance floor. She visited Encore School of Dance in Saginaw, where she joined a ballet class filled with young students. The room was filled with photos and memorabilia from her years as a dancer and studio owner.
“I remember dancing, getting to go with acrobatics, tap, and ballet,” said Lena. “I love the dance studio, and I love the young kids, and I even taught one of the moms, that was a lot of fun.”
South of Arlington, at Legacy Oaks of Midlothian, 97-year-old Kendall checked something off his bucket list — a hot air balloon ride. After chatting with Activities Director Clarice Bishop, Kendall shared his dream of flying. Clarice made it happen, and even joined him on the ride.
“Life is truly about enjoying each day,” Kendall said after the flight. “It was calm, peaceful, and beautiful. I never would’ve done it without Clarice.”
Clarice reflected, “Kendall’s spirit inspires us all. It’s a privilege to help him live his dreams.”
Cultural and Creative Celebrations
Many of our Miracle Moments honor heritage and creativity.
Near San Antonio, at The Brooks of Cibolo, 102-year-old Susana celebrated her birthday with Mariachi music and a cultural display. The event featured traditional foods, a photo timeline of her life, and live music that brought tears to many eyes.
“We are excited to gather and recognize Susana for the incredible life she has led,” Sandra LeBlanc, Senior Executive Director, shared. “This event is an opportunity to celebrate her longevity and the rich Mexican culture she has brought to our community.”
At The Hamptons of Tyler Senior Living, resident Willa — known in the community as the “Cajun Queen” — had one request for her 100th birthday: a Mardi Gras celebration. Her family from Louisiana joined her for Cajun dishes, live music, and dancing. The event reflected Willa’s love for art, horses, basketball, and of course, Mardi Gras.
“She was very active growing up,” her sister said. “And she still is today. We are from Cajun country, and we love music and dance.”
Art that Lives On
Some Miracle Moments are quiet tributes that highlight a resident’s lifelong talent. At Arabella of Longview, we celebrated Anne, a 90-year-old artist, with a community art show featuring her paintings.
Anne began painting at age 30 and studied under several artists throughout her career. She taught, painted murals, and even led workshops across Texas. The event also included a surprise gift — a custom puzzle made from one of her floral paintings.
Activities Director Stacey Rogers said, “Anne’s creativity has touched so many people. This show gave everyone a chance to see her legacy up close.”
Similarly, Legacy Oaks of Midlothian hosted a pop-up gallery for Hugh, another talented resident. Hugh shared stories behind each piece and invited others to reflect on where his paintings might be now — hanging in homes or tucked away as memories.
Why It Matters
These stories show what makes Civitas Senior Living different. We don’t just provide housing or care. We simplify the journey while offering community, purpose, and the chance to keep growing.
Each Miracle Moment is a way to say, “We see you. You matter.” Whether it’s a shared meal, a dance class, or a dream come true, these moments bring meaning to our residents’ lives — and joy to their families.
Family members often shared that Miracle Moments bring out joy in their loved one they hadn’t seen in years, offering a beautiful reminder of their true selves.
