Resident Wanda C. celebrated a milestone birthday at Arabella of Red Oak: 95 years! She continues to live independently but will always welcome the support of her family, friends, and church fellowship. Wanda also loves her on-site therapy, provided by Select Rehabilitation, for keeping her strong and mobile.
Ask her about her most significant accomplishment over the last few decades – and her passion for teaching still brings a smile to her face. Wanda spent more than 40 years as a teacher in Waxahachie before retiring! And that was only temporary – she returned to teaching another three years because she was so beloved and needed. Her lifelong contributions to education and her ongoing engagement with the community stand out as a reflection of her dedication to others.
At Arabella of Red Oak, Wanda leads a resident Bible study, even creating a weekly program called “Remember When,” which engages fellow residents in sharing their life stories. Even after 95 years, her dedication to helping others grow is still as strong as ever. Neighbors in her community are now working on memoirs and preserving their experiences and histories.
“Wanda is an inspiration to everyone she meets,” said Amanda Barron, Executive Director of Arabella of Red Oak. “She has a joyful attitude and exudes positivity despite some of the challenges life has thrown her way.”
Even in retirement, this senior isn’t slowing down anytime soon. As Wanda loves to say, “If they called me back tomorrow, I’d go back and teach again!”
