Sailor H., a 15-year-old Eagle Scout, along with his troop, has breathed new life into Alexis Pointe Senior Living by transforming the community’s grounds. Thanks to the boys’ handiwork, a captivating gazebo and a picnic area have created a haven for the residents to relax, socialize, and savor life’s simple pleasures.
The project kicked off on May 3, 2024, with the construction of rebar cages and the installation of formwork supports. Throughout the following months, Sailor, along with members of Boy Scouts of America Troop 127 and his family, dedicated countless hours to building and assembling various components of the project.
On May 18, 2024, the real fun began with the first big workday. Members of Troop 127 gathered, pumped with enthusiasm, and ready to bring Sailor’s vision to life. From safety briefings to installing the first post, every moment was a step towards something magical. The dedication didn’t stop there—by late June, they had crafted roof trusses and installed them like pros.
By July 21, 2024, the transformation was complete! The new gazebo and ADA-friendly picnic area, featuring decomposed granite and custom-built furniture, were ready for action. Funded by leftover contributions from the Wimberley Valley Arts mural project, this beautiful addition showcases the best of community support and creativity.
“Sailor and Troop 127 have completely transformed our community,” said Al Mata, Executive Director of Alexis Pointe Senior Living. “This project not only showcases the spirit of community service but also leaves a lasting legacy that our residents will cherish for a long time to come.”
